Tolman received praise for her performance as Minnesota police officer Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair stated that Tolman "calmly, assuredly stole" the film. Tolman won a Critics' Choice Television Award in the category of Best Supporting Actress, Films/Miniseries. Additionally she was nominated for Best Actress were received at the Emmy Awards as well as the Golden Globes. The same year, it was announced that Tolman will have a guest role on the Mindy Project on the show as Abby Berman who is a romance author. In 2015, she was a supporting part on Michael Dougherty s comedy horror film Krampus. Tolman turned down several character roles as supporting actors such as best friends, wives, and mothers following her breakthrough role on Fargo. She was looking for a role that was different. Tolman played a character on ABC as a character in Downward Dog (based on Animal Media Group's web-series). The series was cancelled after a single season. Tolman was the main character in ABC's drama series Emergence which debuted on September 24, 2019. The show was canceled on May 21, 2020, after only one season, despite "pretty solid" ratings, according to Tolman. Also, she was an guest on NBC's Good Girls.
